We seem to be in that odd in-between fruit season when I regularly come home with apples, pears and the ever-present bananas, while other fruit like grapes, berries and citrus are either pricey or not yet at their peak. That’s fine by me — I love apples and pears — and buying them often means they ripen quickly at home.
With several ripe pears on hand one morning, I wanted a green smoothie with a twist. I didn’t feel like the usual green smoothie I make, so I tried something different. Inspired by a tip to add cinnamon to smoothies and using a soft Bartlett pear, I blended up a version that turned out surprisingly delicious. My daughter enjoyed it too, so I made it again that weekend.
Meet my current favorite: Cinnamon Pear Green Smoothie.

Cinnamon Pear Green Smoothie

Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup ice
- 1/2 cup vanilla low-fat Greek yogurt
- 1 ripe Bartlett pear, cored and cut into chunks
- 1 large handful fresh spinach leaves
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions:
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth, about 30 seconds depending on your blender. Adjust cinnamon to taste or add a splash of milk if you prefer a thinner consistency.
